Every summer we (I) spend time getting the Lego kits put back together in an attempt to find the very nice Pottery Barn Kids carpet in the Kids’ room. This is the first summer the Kaiser has been super on board so we are creating a Lego town.
All the time with the Legos makes me think of all the things I have seen about Legos and people getting offended over them.
Like the Lego Friends. People all mad because they are pink and “girly”. They are in my son’s room. The fireman sits in the chair at the hair salon, the Friends are in front of the burned out building like little pink and flowery arsonists.
Growing up, my brothers and I mixed Strawberry Shortcake, Star Wars, Barbie’s and Tonka Trunks. In end, they all worked really well with Black Cats and smoke bombs on the 4th of July.
To me, it’s a matter of “who cares”. “Masculine” and “feminine” can be complimentary yin and yang. Pink flowers at the fire station, female paramedics, male hair dressers. In our town, do what you want, as long as you pick up the little pieces when you are done.
I have even seen people complaining that there are no people of color in the standard Lego world. Are you kidding me? I can’t even comprehend how someone can think that when faced with an entire toy race of people in such advanced stages of jaundice I can only assume they have been consuming all day every day at the Lego Town Bar and Bar.
So those are the deep thoughts I’ve been having while building every Lego City kit made in the last four years. How is your summer?
