Okay. So you know what’s up now. Everyone has a unique reaction to something stressful like being stuck in an elevator (WHO sings that song? It’s stuck in my head like I was stuck in that elevator.) Panic, Loud panic, Twittering like mad, Calling someone to ask them to pray for them, raising her hand and announcing to the elevator that she’d be telling them what to do in a voice reserved for her days as a special ed high school teacher in a building of 2500 because if she couldn’t control that #elevator she would, by gawd, control the people around her. *ahem* {shame}
I heard a voice on her phone, voice was shaking, but in control. Next phone call, as she carefully moved toward the floor I heard the words, “Just pray for me.”**
I headed to the floor with her. Which allowed me to focus on helping someone else through this rather than focusing on wondering if we could just start climbing out of the damn elevator through the top. (I totally had all kinds of Oceans 11/12/13 flashes through this.) We looked a pictures on her camera – which I admit that over dinner “someone” had shoved her camera in my dress and tried to take photos of mah bewbs. Which didn’t come out for some reason. I “Someone” may have had too much drink. Just sayin’.
At long last we were released from our hotter than fucking hell box of sweat, I hugged on my girl and then Victoria and I got on the other elevator and rode up to Room 704. Cuz we’re crackers that way.
** I’m gonna cheese for a moment. But I’m sincere. It’s sat with me since I heard these words come from her mouth. No matter what a person believes or doesn’t believe, we can be the answer to someone’s prayer. Which I’d never thought of till that moment. So when I see me with a halo over my head, I get a little teary. I will now go back to passing out vibrators and making drinks – cuz as I told Mrs. Fussypants – “God created orgasms, batteries made them possible”

I think the elevator man did not say anything when he opened those doors because he was looking right up your dress as you so wonderfully sat on the floor and had Jenny at total peace!!

Dawn, I was so in awe of how you immediately stepped up to help Jenny. You were so great! My brain was simply stuck, refusing to really think at all, keeping at bay my claustrophobia, and I’m just thankful yours didn’t.
Isn’t it Aerosmith that sings that song?
Carissa
Ahhh.. seems the intense experiences gain the tightest shared time and follow up and real relationships begin. How glad I am that wasn’t me in there.. I totally feel for everyone!

This post almost makes me wish I was there, bonding with you and your bewbs.
Almost.
heather...
I’m sort of embarrassed that the song running through my head wasn’t the awesomely obvious Aerosmith “Love In An Elevator” but instead the shameful R. Kelly “Trapped In A Closet.” The words to Love In An Elevator would have been so much easier to manipulate, which would have meant lots of singing from me to all of you.
I know you’re sad about it.

Dear Dawn,
I believe we may have already spoken by phone but felt it equally important to respond to your blog regarding your experience at the Hotel Preston this weekend (I plan to post this same note to the other hotel guests?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ blogs that were involved in the incident as well). We are passionate about our guests and know you have many choices when traveling to Nashville thus please accept my personal apology specific to the elevator incident.
I understand from your blog post that you were unable to get an immediate response from the hotel team. We had our Manager on duty at the time working hand in hand with the elevator engineer to insure he moved swiftly in getting all passengers out of the lift. Unfortunately this caused our Manager not to be present when the guests exited to personally insure their well being. I can share with you with confidence we have never had an elevator delay occur when the maximum number of people did not exceed 7 people per elevator and it is unfortunate the capacity posting in the elevator was not read by our patrons.
As a result of this incident and to insure we do not have guests faced with this situation in the future we are scheduling follow up training with our internal management and staff in coordination with the elevator company to improve upon our timeliness in the rare case this ever occurs again.
I also agree with the suggestion to install additional signage outside of the elevators on the lobby and lower lobby level to complement the maximum capacity of 7 patrons that is already posted inside the cabs. We have begun working with our sign company to implement signs in these locations.
My belief is that this situation would not have occurred had it been clearer to our hotel guests.
As a gesture of goodwill on the hotel?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s behalf I have taken the liberty of adjusting $50 + tax off of each of the 13 guests?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ hotel bill who was impacted by the elevator delay.
In addition, I will personally provide to each of the 13 guests a special rate on a future stay with us and include complimentary breakfast to demonstrate our usual exemplary service from our team and insure a flawless future visit.
I appreciate your patronage at the Preston during the Blissdom ?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢09 conference and look forward to seeing you in the future.
Please feel free to contact me directly to further discuss your experience ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú {this information redacted by the web owner} and I remain at your service.
Sincerely,
Steven Hoida

Never underestimate the value of that special ed training. It comes in handy in lots of situations. I’ve personally experienced the value when walking up on someone having a seizure in a parking lot and in dealing with the occasional beligerant repairperson. It’s good to have skillz!
And, I’m glad you’re getting a discount on your bill and some free stuff if you decide to visit Hotel Preston again. It’s too bad the general manager couldn’t help blaming you for the whole thing in his “apology.”
